Junior Engineer/Designer (Summer Student) - Carr Industrial Ltd.

Duties
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Engineer/Designer to support our management team in streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency. This role involves developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), utilizing engineering software for mechanical design, supporting inventory management systems, and creating training materials, including instructional videos.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Lean Manufacturing principles, including waste reduction, and proficiency with Microsoft programs, SolidWorks or Fusion 360, and video editing software to help grow adoption as part of a team. Questioning the requirements is very important for the role.
Key Responsibilities:
- SOP Development: Assist in drafting, updating, and optimizing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve operational efficiency and standardization.
- Process Improvement: Analyze manufacturing workflows, identify inefficiencies, and implement Lean Manufacturing strategies to minimize the 8 Wastes (Defects, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-utilized Talent, Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Extra Processing).
- Engineering & Design: Utilize SolidWorks or Fusion 360 to design, modify, and optimize components, fixtures, and tooling to support continuous improvement projects.
- Inventory System Support: Assist in the implementation and optimization of inventory management systems, ensuring accurate tracking, organization, and replenishment of materials. Work to reduce waste, excess inventory, and improve material flow.
- Training & Documentation: Develop technical documentation, training guides, and visual work instructions for employees.
- Video Editing & Training Creation: Record and edit training videos to enhance employee learning and onboarding, ensuring consistent training across the organization.
- Data & Software Utilization: Leverage Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.) to document improvements, create reports, and collaborate with teams.
- Collaboration: Work closely with management, production teams, and engineering staff to identify opportunities for operational improvements and implement solutions effectively.
Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Software: Experience with SolidWorks or Fusion 360, Microsoft Office Suite, inventory management software, and video editing tools I movie.
- Lean Manufacturing Knowledge: Understanding of Lean principles, 8 Wastes, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Inventory Management Experience: Familiarity with inventory control systems, tracking methods, and waste reduction techniques.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, design and optimize production layouts, and troubleshoot process inefficiencies.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify inefficiencies and propose data-driven solutions.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to develop SOPs, training materials, and technical documentation.
- Project Management: Ability to manage your own projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience: Mechanical Design: 2 years (required)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or food production environments or recycling.
- Familiarity with automation, process optimization, or industrial equipment improvements.
- Understanding of 5S methodology, Kanban systems, and other Lean tools.
- Licence/Certification: Class G Licence and clean driving abstract (preferred)

- Due to funding requirements, you must be enrolled as a student or a recent graduate under 30 to apply.
