Duties

Are you interested in helping us to renovate our community hall and to care for the grounds?
Would you like to do help foster a more inclusive community for migrant farm workers, and seniors? 
Would you like to help rescue food and redistribute it? 
Do you want to learn about protecting farmland and doing conservation work on farmland and natural areas? 

We are a small, not for profit organization that own the Langford Schoolhouse, and provides outreach to ecological farmers, seniors, and migrant farm workers. We are founding members of Lynden Friends of Migrant Farm Workers.

We operate the Langford Schoolhouse as an accessible rural community hub, with a certified kitchen. The Langford Schoolhouse has an array of solar panels that produce energy that we feed into the grid.

• protect farmland and local ecosystems,
• promote ecotourism with bird and plant walks on a local organic farm, 
• rescue and redistribute organic food to migrant farm workers and seniors, and
• redistribute some bikes to migrant farm workers.

Job Description:
Assist with the care of the Langford Schoolhouse and with the grounds. 
1) Cleaning the building after rentals, 
2) showing the building to potential renters, 
3) caring for the grounds (mowing, trimming, weeding), 
4) helping with planting projects, and with control of phragmites, 
5) assisting with renovations to the ground floor to prepare it for a museum (construction, painting, repairs).
6) food rescue and redistribution
7) care and maintenance related to eco-tourism for events, including grounds work.

Qualifications

We are seeking someone who is highly motivated, and who has skills related to doing renovations and community work. We will provide mentoring and work with you.

• Schedule: flexible 7-hour day shift, Monday to Friday, occasional weekends
• Assets: Spanish speaking, comfortable using a variety of tools and a tractor, driver’s license, bike repair skills.
• Experience: 1 year of renovation/construction. 
• Ability to commute or relocate before starting work (required).

Eligibility

Eligibility: Canadian citizen, permanent resident or refugee status (legally allowed to work in Canada)

Must be 18 to 30 years old only
