Up to 22.5 hours per week, primarily weekday daytime hours with occasional evenings or weekends for events.  There is flexibility in working hours, to be discussed with the successful candidate.

Duties

SOAR Community Services is a long-established health and social service provider in Brantford, Brant County and Haldimand County. We deliver a comprehensive continuum of services across addictions, mental health, housing, justice, and employment.  We are accredited for our excellence in service provision.

The Strategic Communications Coordinator plays a key role in enhancing the impact of the work we do. You support our purpose by creating and executing a strategic communications plan that reflects our values, increases access to our services, demonstrates our impact, aligns with our strategic priorities, raises our profile for funders and donors, and increases knowledge and compassion in our community. This role leverages a wide range of communication tools to support these objectives. You work collaboratively across the agency to learn about our programs to support the development of content that reflects our work. You are an important enabler of a cohesive and impactful communications strategy. Key functions of this role include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of a strategic communications plan
  • Developing brand guidelines to ensure consistency in external communications
  • Implementing a social media strategy and monitoring the impact
  • Optimizing website content and enhancing user experience
  • Supporting our annual impact event through development of an annual report and contributing to event planning
  • Acting as the first point of contact for media inquiries, developing news releases and talking points
  • Creating compelling and visually appealing print and digital marketing materials
  • Monitoring the impact of communications and marketing strategies, through tracking key metrics, analyzing effectiveness, and providing actionable insights for continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • College diploma (university degree preferred) in communications, public relations, marketing or related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a similar role, ideally in a not-for-profit context
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; including superior writing, spelling, proofreading and editing skills.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing strategic communications plans.
  • Graphic design and layout skills with an eye for compelling, professional visuals.
  • Experience working cross-functionally to support multiple departments and initiatives.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Continuous improvement mindset, with ability to track KPIs to make data-driven recommendations.
  • Experience with iMIS or other CRMs, email marketing platforms (MailChimp), design software (Adobe, Canva), social media management platforms, web content management systems, Microsoft PowerPoint, online survey platforms, and project management software is an asset.
  • Flexibility in work hours to meet the needs of the agency.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation, as some travel may be required.
