Duties

Armstrong Milling is seeking a Systems Support Assistant to provide technical support within a plant and office environment. This role supports both local and remote staff and contributes to IT operations, infrastructure, and ongoing technology initiatives.
 

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide first-level support to end users (local and remote) by diagnosing, resolving, and documenting software, hardware, and network issues
  • Maintain and upgrade hardware and software for desktops, laptops, tablets, and other devices
  • Support onboarding by preparing IT equipment, including account creation, permissions, and access
  • Assist with patch management, backups, and system monitoring
  • Assist with management of network and infrastructure as required
  • Coordinate support with external vendors as needed
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Assist with IT projects such as system upgrades, infrastructure improvements, and cybersecurity initiatives
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of IT assets and assist with tracking
  • Stay current with new technologies
  • Decommission old hardware
  • Generate reports based on end-user requirements in the ERP system

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education in IT or related field preferred
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience supporting end users in an IT environment preferred
  • Experience with Windows Server/Desktop, Office 365, and Active Directory
  • Experience deploying hardware (computers, phones, printers, scanners, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing)
  • Experience with PowerShell or scripting languages
  • Basic programming knowledge (preferred)
  • Experience with Linux (asset)
  • Understanding of virtual server configuration and maintenance (asset)
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and infrastructure hardening (asset)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Effective communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Positive attitude and ability to work both independently and in a team

Eligibility

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working at heights and on ladder
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to work 24–30 hours per week
  • Ability to work on-site (location not on a bus route)
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding role
  • May be required to work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Ability to work in an environment containing peanuts, wheat, and other allergens
