About the Position
H.O.P.E (Helping Ourselves through Peer Support & Employment) is a non-profit CSI and we are now hiring for our Weekend drop-in program. (Brantford, ON)
Approximately 3.5 -7+ hours per month. Additional hours possible after training (Saturdays/Sundays)
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To offer hope of recovery for consumers and provide support and linkages that help to improve their quality of life and ability to cope with daily stressors
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- to provide support and encouragement to consumers at our weekend drop-in program
- to inform consumers about community and natural supports and how to use these in the recovery process
- to use and teach problem solving techniques with individual
-to serve as a consumer advocate
-to teach consumers how to identify and combat negative self-talk
-to support the choices that consumers make and assist them in overcoming related anxiety
-to teach and role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience
-to model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies
-to assist consumers to develop empowerment skills through self-advocacy and stigma-busting.
-to assist in sustaining mutual support groups
-to document contacts and statistics
-to maintain the confidentiality of personal information
-setup and clean up of our drop-in facility
-facilitate weekly social/recreational activities for participants
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
-to attend H.O.P.E. Staff meetings
-to undertake other relevant duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor
-occasionally shop for program supplies
-complete any necessary training
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current or former consumer of mental health services & willing to self-identify and share personal experience of recovery is a must
- Specific training in Peer Support preferred, but not necessary for the right candidate
-high school diploma or equivalent. SSW or equivalent preferred.
- willingness to work Saturdays/Sundays
-able to commit to a minimum of one year
-ability to role model competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills
-ability to actively listen non-judgmentally
-ability to assess and manage risk safely and effectively
-current first aid or CPR training
-a commitment to working within principles of recovery and psychosocial rehabilitation
-knowledge of community resources and systems in Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk
-Safe Talk, ASIST and Mental Health First Aid Training would be an asset.
