Duties
A bricklayer labourer performs vital manual duties like mixing mortar, hauling heavy materials, and erecting scaffolding to maintain a smooth workflow.
Core Responsibilities:
- Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport bricks, blocks, mortar, and other heavy masonry units across the job site.
- Mortar Preparation: Mix and prepare mortar using hand tools or mechanical mixers according to consistency guidelines.
- Site Prep: Erect and dismantle scaffolding, clear worksites, and sweep up debris to maintain a safe environment.
- Tool Maintenance: Clean, organize, and restock hand tools, power saws, and masonry equipment for the bricklayers.
- Layout Assistance: Help measure build areas, cut materials using masonry saws, and set up corner profiles.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow all workplace safety procedures, operating safely around high heights and moving equipment.
Qualifications
- Physical Fitness: High stamina is essential; the role involves standing for long periods, bending, and lifting heavy loads (frequently 50–100 lbs).
- Work Conditions: Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Experience: Previous general labor or construction site experience is highly preferred, but this role often serves as a steppingstone to a formal apprenticeship.
- Work Ethic: Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to take direction from supervisors.
- Mandatory training: Ontario Worker Health and Safety Awareness in Four Steps, WHMIS, and Working at Heights.
- Driver's License: Employee would be responsible for getting themselves to the job site.
- Work boots and hard hat are required.
