Duties
SOAR Community Services offers a continuum of social housing services to meet client needs ranging from homelessness to independent living. As part of the continuum, Station House is a 7-bed gender inclusive facility providing shelter and support individuals who are between 15 and 17 years of age. Station House works with individuals who are precariously housed or at risk of homelessness and provides them with a full spectrum of social, health and recreational services on site and through referrals to other SOAR Community Services programs or community agencies.
As a Support Counsellor, you will:
- Assist youth with day-to-day needs including medication administration, meal preparation, and maintaining a safe and clean-living environment.
- Following individualized support plans and apply Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) strategies to de-escalate situations and maintain a supportive environment.
- Complete required daily reports, case notes, and incident documentation in compliance with program standards and licensing requirements.
- Support youth in developing problem-solving abilities, healthy coping strategies, and constructive peer and staff relationships.
- Responsible for developing weekly menus, coordinating grocery orders, maintaining daily food logs, and completing administrative tasks related to food inventory. Ensures the provision of well-balanced, nutritious meal options that support the health and well-being of youth.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Human/Social Services field
- 1+ years of experience (including placements) supporting youth with complex needs—mental health, substance use, homelessness
- Tech-savvy with MS Office and database skills
- Vulnerable Sector Check required
- Accessibility to reliable transportation
- Resilience and emotional awareness to manage vicarious trauma
