40 hours a week Monday to Friday, 8 am – 4 pm, with occasional flexibility to meet the needs of the program

Duties

The Intake Counsellor supports individuals accessing service within our Withdrawal Management and Treatment Services (WMTS) programs. This includes an 18-bed facility (7 withdrawal management beds for any gender and 11 men’s residential treatment beds) and a 10-bed residential treatment facility for women. Though your primary assignment will be at the women’s residential treatment program, you will work collaboratively with the intake staff at the other facility to support all clients accessing WMTS services.  Embedded within a broader interdisciplinary team, you process all referrals to our treatment programs, critically reviewing clinical assessments to determine program suitability.  You also provide support to those waiting for care and collaborate with other staff to support client transitions that help them maintain their recovery goals. You make a difference! 

As the Intake Counsellor, you will:

  • Work as part of a team to deliver quality client care
  • Review treatment applications, liaising with external partners to ensure appropriate client match
  • Facilitate client transition and community connection post-treatment
  • Administer standardized, comprehensive, evidence-based assessment tools when required, to support linkage to appropriate treatment
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure they have access to the right community supports
  • Be trained in safe medication administration practices to support clients while in care
  • Ensure safe and effective functioning of the program

Qualifications

  • College Diploma in a Human or Social Services field
  • Minimum of 2 years’ combined student placement or paid experience in substance use, concurrent disorders and/or mental health settings
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate screening and assessment information to identify client strengths and treatment needs
  • Knowledge of community mental health and addiction resources
  • Proficient in MS Office and be familiar with databases
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Able to manage frequent exposure to vicarious trauma
