Duties

The Addictions Counsellor supports individuals in a bed‑based environment who are experiencing substance use and concurrent challenges by providing a range of services, including group facilitation, case management, coordinated service planning, skill development, and recovery‑oriented support.

This role focuses on enhancing stability, functional skills, and recovery goals through education, structured support, system navigation, and counselling activities that support motivation, problem-solving, and skill development.

Working within a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment, you will support individuals across locations in group-based settings while contributing to a safe, inclusive, and recovery-focused service environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Facilitate individual and group services focused on education, skill building, recovery planning, and relapse-prevention supports
  • Deliver structured, evidence-informed group programming related to substance use recovery, motivation, life skills, wellness, and community integration
  • Support clients using harm‑reduction, recovery‑oriented, strength-based, and trauma‑informed approaches.
  • Collaboratively develop service and recovery plans focused on functional goals, skills development, and access to support
  • Assist clients in building self-advocacy, communication, and system-navigation skills
  • Take a lead role in Coordinated Care Planning, including referrals, transition planning, and continuity of services
  • Respond to and manage client behaviour using Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), de-escalation strategies, and safety-focused support
  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation in accordance with Agency standards and Ministry requirements
  • Use electronic databases to support reporting and service tracking
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, training, and continuous quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Social Services, Addictions, Community Services, or a related field
    (University degree considered an asset)
  • Minimum two (2) years combined student placement and/or paid experience in substance use, concurrent disorders, group facilitation, or community-based services
  • Strong group facilitation, communication, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of community resources, social service systems, and integrated care pathways
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary environments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic client databases
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to manage exposure to vicarious stress within a supportive team environment

Registration with a regulatory body is not required or expected for this role.

Authorized to work in Canada.

Contract Ends: December 2027 (18 months)
