37.5 hours per week.  8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. bi-weekly rotation Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday to be discussed with successful candidate.

Duties

The Crisis Phone and Walk-in Services provide immediate support and/or counseling for individuals experiencing mental health, addictions, or situational crisis for all ages. The Crisis Counsellor will assess each situation to determine the best way to help. 

As a Crisis Counsellor for our phone and walk-in services, you will respond to client needs by:

  • Providing risk assessments and referrals
  • Conducting crisis intervention and stabilization
  • Offering solution-focused counselling
  • Liaising with resources, supports and referral sources

We are also a partner agency with 9-8-8, Canada’s official three-digit national helpline for suicide prevention and emotional distress. This new service is available 24/7/365 and accessible to everyone from coast to coast to coast. The Crisis Counsellor will provide immediate assessment and support to individuals who call the 9-8-8 call line.

Qualifications

  • Have a college diploma in the Human/Social Services field, with a University Degree in a related Social Sciences preferred
  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ counselling experience in an Addictions and/or Mental Health setting, with specific experience working with individuals in crisis situations
  • Be proficient in MS Office and be familiar with databases
  • Have access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to manage frequent exposure to direct traumatic stress
  • Please also note that the successful candidate will be required to provide a police vulnerable sector check as a condition of employment, however strong consideration is made to the type of offense
